Hi, Perry here. If you’ve found this site, it’s probably because you’ve got a dead Playstation 3 with the YLOD (yellow light of death) problem. You’re possibly also curious to know if Rob Sheffield’s PS3 Lights Fix repair guide can help you fix the problem. Keep reading, as you will probably find the following review to be helpful.
The Playstation 3 is a great gaming platform, but it does occasionally have problems. If you’re lucky, your machine will run just fine all the time. if you’re unlucky, like me, you may have run into the yellow light of death, or YLOD. That’s a serious problem, and it pretty much turns a working PS3 into little more than a doorstop. Sony will fix it, but if you’re out of warranty, it’s going to be quite a hassle. They’ll charge you a couple of hundred dollars. You’ll have to do without your unit for up to six weeks. You’ll likely lose all of the data on your drive. And here’s the worst part – Sony won’t guarantee that it won’t happen again!
That’s a headache. And I was pretty ticked off when it happened to me. And really ticked off when it happened a second time!i I wasn’t about to send the unit back again, so I decided to see if I could fix the problem myself. A friend told me about PS3 Lights Fix and I went ahead and bought it. At $37, it was a lot cheaper than the $200 I’d paid Sony.
For my money, I received an ebook, and instruction manual, a set of videos, and access to a members forum that lets people share their stories and repair tips. I was surprised to find out that there isn’t a single cause for the YLOD problem; it can actually be caused by a number of different things. That’s why a lot of the "fixes" that are offered on the Web don’t work. You’ve got to have the right fix to go with the correct cause. Rob’s book covers all of the known causes of the YLOD problem. The instructions were easy to follow and had lots of pictures, which was a big help. The repair methods all used stuff that you’re likely to have around the house, too.
I do OK with reading, and got right to it and had the problem fixed in less than an hour. The videos are nicely done, though, so if reading isn’t something you like to do, you can watch the videos instead.
Here’s the best part – the guide doesn’t just tell you how to fix the YLOD problem; it tells you how to fix all of these problems, too:
- Flashing red light
- Flashing green light
- "3 beeps"
- Red screen of death
- Black screen of death
It also covers HDMI, audio and networking problems, as well. If you own a Playstation 3, sooner or later you’re going to encounter at least one of these problems, and this guide tells you how to fix them all. If the guide doesn’t include it, you can probably find your answer at the members forum, and if that doesn’t work, Rob can help you by e-mail or even telephone.
I can’t say for certain that PS3 Lights Fix can help you with every problem that you might have with your Playstation 3, but I’m pretty sure it covers most of them. For the price, it’s a pretty thorough and easy to follow guide that I think is easy enough to understand for anyone to use.
If your unit is still under warranty, I’d send it back to Sony. If it’s out of warranty, I’d recommend that you buy the guide.
Good luck to you in your repairs and in your gaming.
Perry
